Donations to the Rabbi’s Discretionary Fund are held in an account that Rabbi Feingold has the sole discretion to use as she sees fit. Donations are not comingled with other Beth Hillel accounts. Rabbi Feingold uses this fund to pay for special, non-budget programs at the temple and for scholarships for camp and religious school, to assist congregants who face financial crises and needy folks who knock at the temple’s door. She also uses the fund to contribute to favorite tzedakah causes.
This year, Rabbi Feingold used the fund to: provide extra scholarship help for several of our BHT children to attend Jewish camps, retreats and NFTY events; help a Jew in need with rental assistance; provide funding for special Beth Hillel events and needs (eg Stereo Sinai concert and flowers to the family of a former Beth Hillel office secretary who passed away); support community causes such as CUSH, the Shalom Center, Kenosha Community Foundation, Kenosha Achievement Center, The Sharing Center in Western Kenosha County (partial list); support Jewish and non-Jewish causes such as Hebrew Union College (the Reform rabbinical school), Congregation YOZMA of Modi’in, Israel, which hosted our Beth Hillel Israel travelers, Women of Reform Judaism’s YES fund which gives scholarship to rabbinical students, including those in Germany and Israel, UW-Madison Hillel and Hillel Milwaukee, the American Jewish Archives, Religious Coalition for Reproductive Rights, (partial list); and more.
If you wish to make a donation to the Rabbi’s Discretionary Fund, please make your check out to Beth Hillel Temple and put Rabbi’s Discretionary Fund in the Memo line. Donors may not direct how the funds are to be spent. All honoraria Rabbi Feingold receives from BHT members for officiating at life cycle events are placed in this fund.
